SMS Supercars previews 460 and 460X Mustangs

MustangBy: Drew Phillips

If you build it they will come. At least that's what Steve Saleen is hoping, and with his recent announcement regarding Saleen, Inc's warranties, we're guessing many of his loyal customers will indeed come with money in hand to buy his new tricked-out ponycar. Not that people will buy the car based on reputation alone - SMS has made sure that its 460 Mustang has the proper credentials of a Steve Saleen creation. The exterior gets a full makeover including a new front fascia, Red Butterfly Air Induction hood, side splitters, rear fascia, and rear wing complemented by 20-inch, 5-spoke wheels. Two variants are available, a 460 Mustang and a 460X Mustang. The first features a 4.6L supercharged V8 putting out 470 horsepower mated to a 5-speed manual while the latter sports a 5.0L supercharged V8 producing 655 horsepower routed through a 6-speed manual. Both also feature several suspension upgrades including a new watts-linkage system and upgraded front and rear brakes. Follow the jump for more details in the press release from SMS.

Auction Action: Everything you need to start your own performance driving school

Ford MustangBy Dan Roth

Now all you need is talent, or if you don't have any, you can at least teach others to drive as horribly as you do. Hurry to Indianapolis for the Saturday, February 28 auction of Track Attack racing school, and you could pick up some good stuff. There's seven SCCA spec racers, a fleet of go karts, a Ford Mustang that was a Champ Car pace car, a car transporter, motorhome, tools, lots of racing gear – basically everything but the track. If you can't make it to Indy, the auction will be webcast, as well. Teaching others how to drive not your thing? There's the makings of a racing team in there, or enough goodies to seriously boost the equipment in your workshop. It's a darn shame that the school is closing, but there's no sense letting any meat on the bones go to waste, right?

Detroit Preview: 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 bites back

Shelby GT500By Sam Abuelsamid

When Ford introduced the new 2010 Mustang at the LA Auto Show in November, marketing boss Jim Farley promised the next chapter in the Mustang story would be revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Well that time has arrived and to anyone who has been following the Mustang pattern over the last several years, it should come as no surprise that it's the Shelby GT500. Just like the last iteration, the new GT500 is the most powerful factory production Mustang ever.

Like the more prosaic Mustangs, the GT500 is mechanically an evolution of the older model. Just as Ford used the current-gen Bullitt model as the starting point for the 2010 Mustang GT, the lessons learned from developing the limited edition GT500 KR fed directly into the latest Shelby-badged variant. Output of the supercharged 5.4L V8 has now been cranked up to 540 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque, and the handling is claimed to be better than before. Check out everything that's new on the GT500 after the jump.

Won't Someone Please Think of the Mustangs!

For a lot of Mustang owners, their pony is like their child. They take care of it, keep it clean, give it a good home, keep it well fed with some high octane gas, etc. And, just like any proud parent, they want only the best for their baby. They don't want it to be just average, like all the others. They want it faster, louder, flashier, meaner and all around more powerful than any other Mustang on this block or the next. And when you jump over to AmericanMuscle, you can get all the best aftermarket Mustang parts to send your 'stang to the head of the muscle car class.

Customizing your front end can be as easy as popping in a new set of Mustang headlights. Give your pony a sleek, updated look with a set of projector headlights, which put the maximum amount of light exactly where you need it: right on the road. A set of Halo headlights give your car a sinister look when it's flying through the night. Or, pick up some cleared-out, Euro-style headlights and give your pony a fresh off the track feel.

Making sure your Mustang gives you the smoothest ride possible is large, and often overlooked, part of personalizing your pony. Getting jostled all around when you're trying to enjoy the open road will aggravate anyone, but especially a Mustang owner. If your 1987-2009 pony is shaking you around a bit too much when you're cruising down the highway, a new pair of Mustang shocks could be just what the doctor ordered.

Now, as all smart 'stang owners know, getting as much cool air to your engine is a priority because of how much more powerfully and efficiently your car will operate. And a new, aftermarket Mustang radiator is one of the absolute best ways to ensure that both those things happen. The replacement aluminum radiators can eliminate up to 20%-25% more heat than the stock model that comes in your car, and will deliver even more of that high-powered Mustang performance you love.

But AmericanMuscle offers multiple style mods in addition to all our performance enhancing pieces. Any one of our variety of Mustang decals will transform your car into a one-of-a-kind ride, or show off your well-deserved pride for your Mustang, Cobra or 4.6. Or, you could let everybody else know where you got all this great stuff with an AmericanMusucle decal!
